Choose marble at our South Shields showroom

Natural marble is bought as much for the individual slab as for the material name. The colour, veining & movement can change across one slab, and two slabs from the same range will not be identical. A small sample can help with colour, but it cannot show how the movement will travel across a long worktop, a kitchen island or a full-height splashback.

RH Stone Surfaces is based at Elswick Way Industrial Estate on Newcastle Road in South Shields. Customers from South Shields, Westoe, Harton, Cleadon, Whitburn, Boldon & the wider South Tyneside area can visit the showroom to compare marble with other natural & engineered surfaces. Bring your kitchen or bathroom plan, approximate measurements, photographs & any cabinet, flooring or paint samples that affect the decision. We can then discuss the material, layout & information needed for a quotation.

Marble worktops, islands, splashbacks & vanity tops

Kitchen worktops

Worktop runs are planned around the actual kitchen, including sink & hob cut-outs, joints, exposed edges, upstands & the direction of the marble veining.

Statement islands

A large island can display more of a marble slab. The top, visible ends, seating area, overhangs & support need to be considered as one design.

Marble splashbacks

A marble splashback can continue the worktop vertically or become the main feature behind the hob or sink. Socket positions & vein placement are agreed before cutting.

Bathroom vanity tops

Marble can be fabricated for single or double vanity units, inset or surface-mounted basins, tap holes, splashbacks & shaped or polished exposed edges.

Bespoke basin details

Bespoke basin designs require careful planning of falls, joints, support, plumbing access & the selected marble. The design is reviewed before fabrication is confirmed.

From your first plan to fitted marble

For an initial quotation, send a plan, sketch or approximate measurements. Tell us whether the project includes standard worktop runs, an island, upstands, full-height splashbacks, vanity tops or basin details. Include the sink, hob, taps & other cut-outs where known. Photographs of the units, room & access route are useful when pieces may be large or handling space is restricted. You do not need final templated measurements before making the first enquiry.

Once the material & scope are agreed, final templating takes place when the supporting units are installed, level & secure and the relevant appliances, sinks or sanitaryware details have been confirmed. The marble is fabricated at our South Shields workshop, with visible edges, joint positions, cut-outs & vein orientation planned for the actual layout. Installation is then arranged around the confirmed project details.

Access matters as much as measurements. Long worktops, large islands, upper-floor bathrooms, narrow entrances & occupied homes can affect the safe size and handling of each piece. Telling us about the route into the room early helps avoid designing a piece that cannot be moved into position. This is practical project planning, not generic location copy, and it is one reason a local showroom discussion can be useful before the template stage.

Is natural marble right for your project?

Marble can create a distinctive kitchen or bathroom, but it should be chosen with its natural characteristics understood. It can mark, etch or develop a patina, particularly where acidic food, drink or cleaning products are used. Some buyers value that changing natural character. Others want a surface with a different maintenance profile. We explain the trade-off honestly so you can compare marble with quartzite, granite, quartz or porcelain before committing. You can also compare the wider kitchen worktops range available through RH Stone Surfaces.

The strongest marble projects start with the full slab & the room together. Vein direction, prominent areas, joints, cut-outs, splashbacks & visible end panels should be considered before fabrication. If you are choosing marble worktops in South Shields, the next useful step is to visit the showroom or send your plans through the RH Stone Surfaces contact page. Common questions about marble worktops in South Shields

How do I get a quote for marble worktops in South Shields?

Send a plan, sketch or approximate measurements, together with photographs & details such as an island, upstands, splashbacks, vanity units, basins, sink or hob cut-outs. Exact final measurements are taken at templating, so rough information is enough to begin a quotation.

Can I view marble before ordering?

Yes. Visit the RH Stone Surfaces showroom on Elswick Way Industrial Estate, Newcastle Road, South Shields. Marble varies from slab to slab, so viewing the material at a useful scale helps you judge its colour, movement & suitability for the planned room.

Do you supply & fit marble worktops throughout South Tyneside?

Yes. RH Stone Surfaces supplies, templates, fabricates & installs marble worktops in South Shields and across surrounding South Tyneside areas including Westoe, Harton, Cleadon, Whitburn & Boldon.

Is marble suitable for a working kitchen?

Marble can be used for kitchen worktops, islands & splashbacks when its appearance & care requirements suit the buyer. It can mark, etch or develop a patina more readily than some alternative surfaces, so we explain the practical trade-offs before the material is chosen.

Can you fabricate marble vanity tops & bespoke basin details?

Yes. RH Stone Surfaces fabricates marble vanity tops, splashbacks & bespoke basin details as well as kitchen worktops & islands. The achievable design depends on the selected material, dimensions, support, plumbing access & route into the room.

Do I need exact measurements before contacting you?

No. Approximate dimensions, a kitchen or bathroom plan & photographs are enough to start discussing the scope and preparing an initial quotation. Exact measurements are taken during final templating once the supporting units are ready.

What affects the cost of marble worktops?

The selected marble, slab requirement, overall dimensions, cut-outs, edge details, upstands, splashbacks, joints, access & installation requirements all affect the quotation. Sending a plan & project photographs gives us a clearer starting point.
