Choose marble for your Durham project

For a Durham marble project, the full slab matters more than a small sample. Natural veining, movement & colour can change across a single piece, so the way the slab is positioned over a long run, island or splashback should be considered before fabrication.

We work with homeowners, kitchen companies & designers across Durham City and surrounding areas including Gilesgate, Belmont, Neville's Cross, Framwellgate Moor & Newton Hall. Bring a kitchen or bathroom plan, approximate measurements, room photographs and any cabinet, flooring or paint samples that affect the material choice.

Marble worktops, islands, splashbacks & vanity tops

Kitchen worktops

Worktop runs are planned around sinks, hobs, joints, exposed edges, upstands & the direction of the natural marble veining.

Statement islands

Large islands can show more of the slab. Vein direction, visible ends, seating, overhangs & support are planned together.

Full-height splashbacks

A marble splashback can continue the worktop vertically or become the main feature behind a hob or sink.

Vanity tops

We fabricate marble for vanity tops, inset or surface-mounted basins, tap holes, splashbacks & shaped exposed edges.

Bespoke basin details

Bespoke marble basin details need careful planning of falls, joints, support, plumbing access & the selected slab.

Compare materials

If you like strong natural movement but want to compare care & performance, view quartzite, granite, quartz & porcelain.

From your first plan to fitted marble

For an initial quotation, send a plan, sketch or approximate measurements. Tell us whether the project includes standard runs, an island, upstands, full-height splashbacks, vanity tops or bespoke basin details. You do not need final templated measurements before the first enquiry.

Once the material and scope are agreed, final templating takes place when the supporting units are installed, level and secure. The marble is fabricated at our South Shields workshop, with exposed edges, joints, cut-outs and vein orientation planned for the actual room before installation in Durham.

Is natural marble right for your project?

Marble can create a distinctive kitchen or bathroom, but it should be chosen with its natural characteristics understood. It can mark, etch or develop a patina, particularly around acidic food, drink or cleaning products. Some buyers value that changing natural character; others prefer a different maintenance profile. We explain the trade-off so you can compare marble with quartzite, granite, quartz or porcelain before committing.

Common questions about marble worktops in Durham

How do I get a quote for marble worktops in Durham?

Send a kitchen or bathroom plan, sketch or approximate measurements with photographs and details such as an island, splashbacks, vanity units, basins, sink or hob cut-outs. Exact final measurements are taken at templating.

Can I view marble before ordering for a Durham project?

Yes. Visit the RH Stone Surfaces showroom in South Shields to compare marble at a useful scale. Natural marble varies from slab to slab, so viewing the material helps with colour, movement and layout decisions.

Do you supply and fit marble worktops across Durham?

Yes. RH Stone Surfaces supplies, templates, fabricates and installs marble worktops across Durham City and surrounding areas including Gilesgate, Belmont, Neville's Cross, Framwellgate Moor and Newton Hall.

Is marble suitable for a working kitchen?

Yes when its natural characteristics and care requirements suit the buyer. Marble can mark, etch or develop a patina more readily than some alternative surfaces, so the trade-offs should be understood before choosing it.

Can you fabricate marble vanity tops and bespoke basin details?

Yes. We fabricate marble vanity tops, splashbacks and bespoke basin details as well as kitchen worktops and islands. The design depends on the selected material, dimensions, support, plumbing access and route into the room.

Do I need exact measurements before contacting you?

No. Approximate dimensions, a plan and photographs are enough to start discussing the scope and preparing an initial quotation. Exact measurements are taken during final templating.

What affects the cost of marble worktops?

The selected marble, slab requirement, dimensions, cut-outs, edge details, upstands, splashbacks, joints, access and installation requirements all affect the quotation.
